Developing Algebraic Thinking in Grades 3-5

Course Section Description:

Break down your math lessons to reexamine the way you teach algebra. In this course, you become the student, solving mathematical problems in order to better understand how you can use algebra to identify patterns, analyze situations, and practice representing relationships with mathematical models. As part of the course assignments, you will practice your newly developed strategies on 3-5 grade students, monitor their learning process, and assess their understanding of algebra. Peer discussions will help you reflect and use insightful feedback to improve your teaching practice.

Note: This is a facilitated course. Learners submit coursework and participate in asynchronous discussions throughout the course term, and receive graded feedback.

Classroom Link Course: This course asks learners to implement lessons with their class or with a small group of students (options for learners without access to students are available).
