A Curiosity-Driven Approach to Teaching K-2 Science

Course Section Description:

Bring out the scientist in every K-2 student with engaging instruction that builds upon their natural curiosities while deepening understanding of core NGSS concepts. Develop a firm understanding of inquiry-based and connected learning, master evidence-based strategies for integrating both into science lessons, and receive exemplar lessons for teaching topics such as Animal Adaptations and Energy and Motion.

Upon course completion, you’ll be able to:

• Evaluate and select multimodal instructional resources

• Explain the effectiveness of inquiry-based, connected learning for supporting scientific understanding and knowledge development

• Identify and apply culturally relevant teaching practices to support students’ social, emotional, and cognitive development

• Develop a comprehensive lesson plan that includes research-based resources for connecting learners to each other, their families, their communities, and the world
