This interactive video and game is a great way to introduce tessellations to students. It gives a clear description of what a tessellation is and what it is not. It also has an interactive game in the middle, which helps keep the students attention and has them work it out on their own, that way if they didn't grasp the definition they can keep trying without having to worry about being embarrassed in front of their classmates.
