Examine how writing developed by studying the shapes used in ancient scripts and consider how writing can be incorporated with the visual arts. Create a sketchbook or journal of daily life using rubbings and make a layered collage.

This is a fun way to spice up art and history mixed together. Keeping a journal and keeping art work is a good thing to encourage students to do. Layering these items is a good idea as well, it shows the student their progress, which in turn helps the student feel accomplished. It is important in our classrooms to make sure and positively interact with our students, too many times we get the lemon for a teacher and sucks the fun out of subject for students. As teachers we need to stay positive and find fun ways like this lesson plan to incorporate learning a subject and interacting with it rather than just reading word for word about the subject.

Combining media, genre and curriculum is a much more intriguing lesson plan than a singular project. I would also add another layer by playing music while the students write, draw and create.
