The Geometry of Bicycle Designs | Using Symmetry to Create Corporate Logos | Patterns and Weaving | Career Connections | More Math Concepts

Design and Math In this month's Concepts, we'll investigate how math plays an important role in artistic and creative endeavors such as industrial, graphics, and fashion design. centers on the world of fashion where students explore how mathematics, specifically the quadratic formula, is used in weaving fashionable designs.

Activity 1, invites students to examine industrial design by looking at the geometry of bicycle frames and measuring angles and lengths of the triangle parts that make up a frame.

In Activity 2,students work in graphics design investigating different elements of symmetry, including symmetry in the design of corporate logos.

Activity 3, centers on the world of fashion where students explore how mathematics, specifically the quadratic formula, is used in weaving fashionable designs.
