PBS KIDS SETS NEW BAR IN EDUCATIONAL GAMING SPACE

Expanding its PBS KIDS Lab site (http://pbskids.org/lab/), which offers more than 50 cross-platform games designed to help children ages 2-8 build critical math skills, PBS announced new additions that will soon provide even more support to caregivers and teachers. These include bilingual translations of parental instructions and resources like a "Home Activities" section, math tips for families to use in their daily activities, and a new blog series with content related to kids and media.
PBS LearningMedia LAUNCHES WITH WORLD-CLASS CONTENT FROM PUBLIC MEDIA AND ITS PARTNERS

June 27, 2011 – To foster classroom innovation and engagement, PBS and WGBH, and their producing partners WNET and KET, along with 31 other PBS member stations, launched PBS LearningMedia (pbslearningmedia.org), a free service for all teachers, students and families nationwide. In addition to a rich public media library, PBS LearningMedia has content contributed from other publicly funded organizations, including the National Archives, the Library of Congress and NPR, as well as content funded by NASA, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Education, to deliver thousands of resources for use in the classroom and with home-schoolers.
PBS TEACHERS INNOVATION AWARDS PRESENTED TO 40 EDUCATORS

June 6, 2011 – PBS and its member stations today announced the winners of the PBS Teachers Innovation Awards in recognition of the educators’ creative and inventive use of public media to engage students and improve learning. Sponsored by The Henry Ford and SMART Technologies, the second annual PBS Teachers Innovation Awards honors teachers who continuously strive to inspire young minds and cultivate the nation’s next generation of innovators and leaders. First place was awarded to the top 12 educators, one from each of twelve subject and grade-level groupings, and 28 educators were selected as second place winners.
The PBS and Adobe Foundations Join with POV in Awarding Grants To 15 Documentary Projects by Young Filmmakers

June 1, 2011 –The Adobe and PBS Foundations, together with the PBS series POV, are pleased to announce that 15 projects by 22 teen filmmakers will receive grants from Project VoiceScape, a collaboration between the Adobe Foundation’s global signature philanthropy program Adobe Youth Voices and POV, public television’s longest-running showcase for independent nonfiction films.

May 17, 2011 - As America’s largest classroom, PBS and WGBH along with other PBS member stations announced plans today to launch PBS LearningMedia, a new public media education platform available to every teacher and student across the country in time for the 2011-2012 school year. Bringing together the best available high-quality media from 1500 public media producers and more than 350 local PBS stations, PBS LearningMedia is a next-generation digital media platform for PreK-16 classrooms to help re-imagine classroom learning, transform teaching, and creatively engage students.

Arlington, VA (February 2, 2011) – Just released, PBS and Grunwald Associates LLC national research report on teacher’s media usage, entitled "Deepening Commitment: Teachers Increasingly Rely on Media and Technology," reflects a deepening commitment to media and digital technology that connect teachers and their students to educational resources. With each passing year, teachers' reliance on media and technology for classroom instruction and student engagement is increasing. Teachers value digital media as instructional resources that help them engage student interest, promote creativity and differentiate instruction.
