About the Series

SciGirls showcases bright, curious real tween girls putting science and engineering to work in their everyday lives. Each half-hour episode follows a different group of middle school girls, whose eagerness to find answers to their questions and understand the world around them provides an energetic model of inquiry-based science. Girls and their mentors create their own investigations of the environment, technology, engineering, animal behavior, and health.
Shot in documentary verité style, the series is unified by a pair of recurring animated characters — Izzie and her best friend Jake. Together, they embark on their own adventures and call on the SciGirls for help.
And SciGirls soars beyond broadcast, into the interactive space where, in its debut season, the series snagged a “New Approaches” Daytime Emmy Award for linking its shows and website in inventive, fresh ways. At the beginning of each episode, television viewers follow Izzie onto the website as she picks a group of SciGirls whose project she thinks can help her conquer her own challenge. She launches the video and follows the SciGirls' live-action story, learning as she goes. Viewers are invited to visit the website themselves to create their own profile pages and upload their projects, making the SciGirls website a destination for any girl who is interested in science.
In Season Two, SciGirls episodes seamlessly introduce new online games, including a unique interactive experience that starts during the show! Each episode features onscreen clues that lead girls to a corresponding sticker game, called Pick’M Stick’M, on the website. So while kids are enjoying the new episodes, they’re already playing the game! With the clues, girls go to the SciGirls website to solve an “iSpy”-style puzzle (Pick’m !), unlocking pictures they can use to create a their own collage about the show (Stick’m!).
Additional games making a debut on the site this season include an underwater robot rescue adventure and a social network beehive simulation. Together with the TV show, these games support the SciGirls mission: to change how millions of girls think about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Every girl can be a SciGirl!
