About the Series

SciGirls

SciGirls showcases bright, curious real tween girls putting science and engineering to work in their everyday lives. Each half-hour episode follows a different group of middle school girls, whose eagerness to find answers to their questions and understand the world around them provides an energetic model of inquiry-based science.

While we meet new girls in each episode, the series is unified by a pair of recurring animated characters — Izzie and her best friend Jake. Together, they embark on their own adventures and call on the SciGirls for help.

SciGirls integrates the companion website into the TV series like never before. At the beginning of each episode, television viewers follow Izzie onto the website as she picks a group of SciGirls whose project she thinks can help her conquer her own challenge. She launches the video and follows the SciGirls' live-action story, learning as she goes. Viewers are invited to visit the website themselves to create their own profile pages and upload their projects, making the SciGirls website a destination for any girl who is interested in science.

In the first season of SciGirls, girls and their mentors create their own investigations of the environment, technology, engineering, animal behavior, and health. Shot in documentary verité style, SciGirls study dolphins, engineer a giant mechanical puppet, unearth the archaeological secrets of extinct Native American cultures and create high-tech fashions.

The goal of SciGirls is nothing less than changing how millions of girls think about science, technology, engineering and math! Every girl can be a SciGirl!
