Dressing up was hard to do when shoes were made of cardboard and came in only a few colors.

"And we would, we would dress up in glamorous as we could. But our, our shoes were never very glamorous, because shoes were rationed, you know. Leather? Those shoes were made out of cardboard. They looked good, but if you danced too hard on 'em more than one or two nights, you...they were practically falling apart!"
