BURT WILSON: I became a Sacramento Bee carrier at the age of 10. And for me the war. And for me the war was that little square map on the front page where it showed wavy lines moving in some direction and the next day you’d see them move a little more and arrows pointed here and there where different armies were going. And then, all of a sudden, there was this Bulge in the map that was goin back the other way. That was the Battle of the Bulge. And, my God, what’s happening here? Are we losing now that we’re this close? We all took it seriously because the lines moved the other way. |
