During much of the 20th Century and throughout the Cold War, ideology was a
key factor driving international conflicts. Global struggle involved
fascists, communists and, of course, the liberal democracies of the West.
The Cold War is now over. What comes next? The inexorable march of liberal
democracy? Violent anarchy? Or a clash of old civilizations armed with
modern weapons?
