Clinton vs. Warren

Elizabeth Warren is being touted as a possible “spoiler” against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

  • Anushay Hossain: “America ranks 75th for the number of women in government. The more women we see running for the top job, that’s a great message.”

  • Debra Carnahan: “Another strong women campaigning [like Elizabeth Warren] helps Hillary Clinton and helps the perception that we are ready for more women leadership.”

  • Darlene Kennedy: “Who is going to go more to the right between Elizabeth Warren and Hillary Clinton in this contest?”

  • Bonnie Erbe: “Elizabeth Warren will say she won’t run, until the polls start showing that she should run.”

  • Cari Dominguez: “In Washington, there is a saying that nobody believes a rumor until it’s denied.”

Hobby Lobby

The family behind Hobby Lobby wants to build a Bible Museum near the National Mall.

  • Cari Dominguez: “I’m actually all for it. Look at our history. Look at our roots. This whole nation was founded on faith.”

  • Debra Carnahan: “If you go back and read the writings of Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, George Washington, they absolutely talk about separation of church and state.”

  • Darlene Kennedy: “If he’s using his own money [to build a Bible museum] then I don’t  have a problem with it, as long as he’s not getting government money for it.”

  • Anushay Hossain: “If a Muslim family wanted to build a building dedicated to the Qur’an, we would be having a very different conversation. I just think religion doesn’t belong in legislation. ”

  • Bonnie Erbe: “I don’t think anybody would be protesting [if the Bible museum were educational and] not at all evangelical.”

How female genital mutilation has become an American problem.

  • Congresswoman Jackson-Lee: “It is said that FGM is to preserve the virginity of these girls and to keep them pure until marriage but it is really taking their spirit away.”

  • Debra Carnahan: “A doctor [in Ethiopia] who has basically wiped this out [said].. it’s through education.”

  • Congressman Crowley: “We need to alert educators and counselors how to look for girls at risk [for FGM] and what to do about that.”

  • Anushay Hossain: “If the girls know that they can go somewhere here to get help, they need to alert the authorities before they get on that plane and before they’re overseas.”

  • Bonnie Erbe: “It’s already against the law. Vacation cutting is against the law. What’s the next step to enforce those laws?”

  • Jaha Dukureh : “Normally it’s not done by doctors and the instruments that are used aren’t sterilized. Sometimes they are used on a number of people.”
