Internship Opportunities with To The Contrary

To The Contrary also has unpaid interns that work with our small, but energetic staff in Washington. While the internship is unpaid, interns have the opportunity to: interview Senators, Congresswomen and other prominent female figures; produce videotaped packages; assist in writing on-air scripts; book panelists and guests; develop show topics; and help maintain the website. Our interns have strong communications skills, are willing to work in a small office in downtown Washington, and are able to dedicate 10-15 hours a week. Applications are accepted for the fall/winter, spring and summer semesters. If interested, please email a resume and letter of introduction to Joy Fowlin at jfowlin@tothecontrary.org.

We are a 4-person 501-c-3 production company. Yet we have competed against the commercial networks and bested them in a variety of national media competitions. We have won coveted "Gracie" awards, Radcliffe College's EMMA award, the ICI/American University Award for reporting on personal finance, the Radio-TV News Directors Association award, Associated Press awards, Women in Communications and other awards for programs we produced on, for example, the female Pharaoh, Hatshepsut who ruled ancient Egypt; on teen pregnancy prevention programs in North Carolina; on women-owned businesses, on women and pensions and on women's health issues.

"To The Contrary: Immigration's Impact" is our three-part series on the effect immigration has on various aspects of US life: on the environment, on America's health care system and on low-wage workers. This fact-based coverage examines how the record influx of new residents is affecting natural resources, wages for low-income workers and an already-stressed health care system.
