To The Contrary also has unpaid interns that work with our small, but energetic staff in Washington. While the internship is unpaid, interns have the opportunity to: interview Senators, Congresswomen and other prominent female figures; produce videotaped packages; assist in writing on-air scripts; book panelists and guests; develop show topics; and help maintain the website. Our interns have strong communications skills, are willing to work in a small office in downtown Washington, and are able to dedicate 10-15 hours a week. We are a 4-person 501-c-3 production company. Yet we have competed against the commercial networks and bested them in a variety of national media competitions. We have won coveted "Gracie" awards, Radcliffe College's EMMA award, the ICI/American University Award for reporting on personal finance, the Radio-TV News Directors Assocation awared, Associated Press awards, Women in Communications and other awards for programs we produced on, for example, the female Pharaoh, Hatshepsut who ruled ancient Egypt; on teen pregnancy prevention programs in North Carolina; on women-owned businesses, on women and pensions and on women's health issues.
