Maria Echaveste is an attorney and consultant with the Nueva Vista Group. She formed her Washington, DC-based consulting firm in 2001 after leaving the Clinton White House.

Ms. Echaveste currently lives in Berkeley, California, and is also a lecturer at the University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law and the Goldman School of Public Policy. Previously, Ms. Echaveste served as Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff for President Clinton, as Assistant to the President and Director of Public Liaison, and as Administrator of the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division.

Ms. Echaveste received a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Stanford University and received a Juris Doctor from the University of California at Berkeley.
