During the poetry writing session, Tara wrote a poem based on what she experienced. “I saw, me personally, springtime. I love the spring. It’s rebirth. The flowers struggling—that’s like life.” Being able to choose her own topic helps Tara to write.

Nicholas Battaglia
Having artifacts from the early twentieth century to explore allowed Nicholas to feel involved in the learning process. Nicholas found the artifacts “interesting.” Having real objects from the period allowed him to “make comparisons” more easily in his writing. Small group discussions also help Nicholas to “feel involved.”
