Jimi Hendrix was one of the first musicians to build his own recording studio. Hendrix's sound engineer, Eddie Kramer, says Hendrix originally wanted to own a nightclub in the Greenwich Village space, but he convinced him to create a recording studio instead. Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios was a state-of-the art studio built by architect and acoustic designer John Storyk.
