Helen M. Stummer: Social Documentary Photographer

Helen M. Stummer spent over 40 years taking pictures in some of America's toughest neighborhoods, from New York's Lower East Side to Newark's Central Ward. Her photographs are in the great social documentary tradition of Jacob Riis. "Risking Life and Lens" is Helen's memoir, published by Temple University Press in 2017.
