“It’s still here.” That’s the assurance of elder Albert White Hat — that the spirit, songs and power of the Lakota are fully present today. These words seem at odds with the broken-down villages, addictions and sense of loss on Lakota reservations, but White Hat believes that every person has potential to be a leader. “Somebody has to do it,” said White Hat. “We just have to go back and take it.”
