I'm a writer and arts consultant born and raised in New York City, a public school child from start to finish (including a B.A. in Creative Writing from the State University of New York at Binghamton). I've spent a lot of my "professional life" earning money with which to travel, work with and talk to people in other parts of the world -- Ethiopian immigrant families in Israel, surfers in Indonesia, old miners in Australia. In between I've written magazine articles and worked on statewide arts initiatives. When I heard about the American Love Stories Web site, I was drawn to the idea of a project that would lend a forum to people with different experiences to share, unique perspectives on life as lived -- probably because my own exposure to such stories has not only shaped my thinking but inspired my choices.
