A graduate of The Juilliard School, Audra McDonald made her Broadway debut in The Secret Garden. Her many Broadway roles have included Carrie in Carousel, for which she earned 1994 Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics’ Circle and Theater Works Awards; Sharon in Master Class, for which she received 1996 Tony and L.A. Ovation Awards; and Sarah in Ragtime, for which she won a 1998 Tony Award.
In 2000, McDonald made her New York Philharmonic debut in Sweeney Todd. She has also appeared with the orchestras of Atlanta, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. McDonald made her Carnegie Hall debut on opening night of the 1998-99 season singing selections from Porgy and Bess with Brian Stokes Mitchell and with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas.
Her festival appearances include the London Proms, Blossom, Ravinia and Tanglewood. Her recordings include Way Back to Paradise and How Glory Goes. She can also be heard on Leonard Bernstein’s Wonderful Town, Dawn Upshaw Sings Rodgers and Hart, the original cast recordings of Marie Christine and Carousel, and Leonard Bernstein’s New York, the latter produced as a PBS television broadcast.
Her film credits include Object of My Affection and Seven Servants.
