Gebe Martinez has been a reporter in Washington, D.C. since 1994,
arriving immediately after the historic 1994 national elections in which
Republicans took control of the House of Representatives after a 40-year
Democratic rule.
Before joining The Houston Chronicle, Martinez covered congressional
leadership for Congressional Quarterly, a non-partisan news organization
relied upon by scholars, journalists and lawmakers as a source for
in-depth coverage of Congress, legislation, and the White House agenda.
She also has reported from Washington, D.C. for the Los Angeles Times
and The Detroit News.
A native of Texas, Martinez graduated from the University of Texas at
Austin in 1976. Throughout her broadcast and newspaper career, her
reporting assignments have focused on government and politics in Texas,
California and Washington, D.C.
