A native of Washington, D.C., Alexis Simendinger has been a reporter in the capital since 1986, and switched gears from covering Capitol Hill to writing about the White House during President George H.W. Bush's final year in office in 1992. She joined National Journal-- a nonpartisan weekly magazine known for its in-depth coverage of U.S. politics and government --as White House Correspondent in May 1997 and is currently National Correspondent for the magazine.
Prior to joining the magazine, Alexis covered the White House for the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. (BNA), a private news and information publisher in Washington. She was part of a team of BNA reporters that won a National Press Club reporting award in 1996.
Before coming to Washington as a reporter, Simendinger wrote for The Tampa Tribune in Tampa, Florida, from 1983-1986.
Simendinger earned a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and her B.A. from New College in Sarasota, Florida.
