Among Congressional Insiders, Pessimism Grows on Prospects for Super Committee

With the super committee's Nov. 23rd deadline looming, Republican Congressional Insiders' optimism about the committee's potential for success has begun to wane, while Democrats are largely maintaining their already gloomy outlook. According to the latest National Journal Congressional Insiders Poll, the percentage of Republican members of Congress surveyed who said success was "somewhat" or "very" unlikely has nearly doubled since early October.

Balanced-Budget Amendment Fails in House

The GOP-controlled House failed by 23 votes on Friday to muster the required two-thirds majority to pass a balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution, a legislative exercise agreed upon by both parties this summer in the deal that raised the nation’s debt ceiling and created the deficit super committee.

Bipartisan support for the amendment was verified in the 261 to 165 tally.

Coming Soon: Perry Attack Ad Against 'Washington Insider'

A source close to the Rick Perry campaign says the Republican presidential candidate will begin airing a new television ad nationwide on FOX and in Iowa, possibly Monday, that suggests  "replacing one Washington insider with another isn't going to change anything.''

A shot at Mitt Romney? At Newt Gingrich? All of the above? Even the political outsider-y Herman Cain worked as a Washington lobbyist as the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

Senate Panel to Consider FCC Nominees

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., said Friday that his panel will have a hearing Nov. 30 to consider the nominations of Jessica Rosenworcel and Ajit Varadaraj Pai to the Federal Communications Commission.

"These are exceptional nominees who will be effective advocates at the FCC," Rockefeller said in a statement. "As we consider these nominations, I remain committed to working with my colleagues to address any concerns and move these nominations to a full Senate confirmation as expeditiously as possible."
