First GOP Debate with Recognizable Candidates Will Be on June 13

The first Republican debate to have top-tier candidates is set for June 13 at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, and Newt Gingrich will join the four lesser-known candidates who participated in last month's debate in South Carolina--Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, and Herman Cain.

Moody's Threatens U.S. Debt Downgrade

Moody’s Investors Service warned on Thursday that “if there is no progress on increasing the statutory debt limit in coming weeks, it expects to place the U.S. government’s rating under review for possible downgrade.”

Economy Picks Up Just 54,000 Jobs; Unemployment Rises Slightly

The U.S. economy picked up just 54,000 jobs in May, the Labor Department revealed Friday morning. The unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 9.1 percent. The number was shockingly low; April saw the addition of 244,000 jobs, and the median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg for May was 165,000. Analysts generally agreed that any number less than 100,000 would cause turmoil in the markets.
