COLUMN: God of 'Coulterism' is hate
By Meghan Blalock
Daily Mississippian (U. Mississippi)
06/08/2006

(U-WIRE) OXFORD, Miss. — Ann Coulter has done it again.

No, she hasn't exposed the truth. No, she hasn't done a cute little political routine during which she defames women, minorities and immigrants. She has once again shown herself as nothing more than a raging lunatic.

In a promotional interview with Matt Lauer on Tuesday for her new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," Coulter argued that the widows of 9/11 victims were nothing but tools of the left's "doctrine of infallibility." She said that the "liberals" put the widows out there to criticize the Bush administration's policies before September 11 because they knew no one would question the widows' motives without seeming to question the authenticity of their grief.

While her point makes sense from a detached, non-realistic viewpoint, it must be brought into context. These women had husbands die in this attack. Coulter acts like they are reveling in the attention they are getting from speaking out about the mishandlings of September 11; doesn't she think these women would probably give anything to have their husbands back? I wonder if Ann Coulter has ever had a truly traumatic experience in her entire life; I think not, because if she had she would be a bit more empathetic to these people and put her hatefulness aside for just a moment.

Furthermore, in her newest book, in which she makes these hateful claims about the widows of the 9/11 attacks, she argues that "the liberals," while they "love to boast that they are not religious," have their own religion — that of liberalism. She explains that Liberalism has many characteristics generally thought to belong to religions, with one exception — there is no God in Liberalism.

Let's fight fire with fire, shall we?

Ann Coulter loves to point fingers — perhaps even more than she enjoys making hateful comments about just about anyone and everyone who is not a Republican. (After all, this is the woman who said about certain Islamic countries: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war.")

She fails miserably, however, at pointing the finger at herself. If there were a religion of Coulterism, what would it consist of? Hateful diatribes against innocent people whose loved ones were killed maliciously? Check. More hateful diatribes against people who criticize the Bush administration and — gasp! — America? Check. Even more hateful diatribes against any number of probably mislabeled groups — "liberals," "immigrants," "minorities," "terrorists," "Muslims," "women"? Check.

So it seems that Ann Coulter's religion — unlike "liberalism", of course — does have a God: hate. Ann Coulter can't seem to open her mouth without giving away the hatred that grows and ferments inside that bleach-blonde head of hers. She hates minorities, she hates poor people, she hates people who aren't from America, she hates non-Christians, she hates liberals and she hates women, especially those who grieve for the loss of their husbands publicly.

Dear Ann: Shut up. The American people have had enough of hate-mongering for now, and probably forever. Perhaps some people still think you are funny or amusing; those people are probably just as ignorant and hateful as you are. Put away your insane theories about the liberal agenda or what-not, and realize that we each see the world through a different pair of proverbial eyes. Yours just happens to be tinted.
