Q: Did President Eisenhower make comments about what atomic war would be
like?
GAP: He would say, you know, we are coming to a time when the only thing worse
than losing an atomic war would be to win it, and to have the responsibility
for attempting to restore civilized life afterwards. Or in a more graphic way,
on occasion he said, you know what we would need, we would need bulldozers to
push the bodies off the streets. And repeatedly said, this just makes no sense
at all.
