Groveland, Georgia

Groveland, 40 miles west of Savannah, was once dominated by a turpentine factory that has since shut down. The University of Georgia owns Groveland's Warnell Forest, a protected forest of live oaks, magnolias, pines, and other trees.

A surprise rainstorm allowed the crew to film weather-related footage for a later scene in the film.

 The Props Department built replicas of the see-through voting boxes common in the day, back when a secret ballot was not secret at all. -- Cathleen O'Connell, associate producer
