Danvers, located 17 miles north of Boston, became a township in 1757. Before then, it was known as Salem Village and was the site of the Salem witch trials.

The Peabody Institute Library there served as a White House stand-in for the Abraham Lincoln sequence that opens the series.

 The Peabody Institute Library is a dead-ringer for the White House. Security measures precluded our filming at the actual White House, and the Peabody Institute couldn't have been more welcoming. We auditioned six performers who portray Lincoln. The Lincoln we finally cast did a terrific job and asked that we call him Mr. President on set. -- Cathleen O'Connell, associate producer
