There was a lot of funny things. I mean there was a funny side to it, and a
sad side. If we had a fire in town, we all went to [work]. Nobody called us in,
we knew we had to be there. I remember one night, it was 9 o'clock and there
was a fire next door in the church, and I ran all the way from here downtown,
in the dark. Today I wouldn't go out on the porch after dark, you know. But
we did that. The job meant a lot to us.
