Q: Radiation is different from other disasters.
RS: Sure. I think the only images I could conger up of the radiation were, of
course, the movies from World War II and the bomb. And one of the odd things
that, you know, you can't smell it, you can't see it, you can't taste it. My
nephew, I believe, was 11 or 12 at the time. When we were within minutes of
driving away, I remember him looking at his arms and saying, "I don't think
we're burned. I don't think we got it." And my thoughts were not yes or no,
we weren't. My thoughts were, "How do I talk to this kid all the way to Boston
without putting any fear in his heart?"
