Q: So what happened at the second press conference?
RT: The second press conference, which Lieutenant Governor Bill Scranton held,
was really a key step that we undertook to try to retain our own credibility.
That is to say, the very purpose of it was to say, "What we were told and what
you were told by the utility is not quite correct," that there had been this
uncontrolled release of radiation and that there was considerable uncertainty
about the stability of the site, that we would continue to press for a more
accurate characterization, but that we wanted to level with the public so that
we didn't become part of scheme to mischaracterize or play down the severity of
the accident.
