Biography

Michael McElroy has been an actor for over 20 years. His credits include: Broadway: “Next to Normal,” “RENT,” “The Wild Party,” “Big River” (Tony nomination 2004, Drama Desk nomination), “The Who's Tommy,” “Miss Saigon,” “Patti LuPone on Broadway,” “High Roller Social Pleasure Club,” “HAIR” (Encores), New York Philharmonic: “Candide,” National Tour: “Rent,” “Big River” (LA Ovation nomination), “SARAFINA.” Off-Broadway: “Some Men” (Second Stage Theater), “BLUE” (Roundabout), “Violet” (Playwrights Horizons, Drama Desk Nomination), “Thunder Knocking on the Door” (Minetta Lane), “Richard III” (NYSF), Regional: “Broadway 3 Generations” (Kennedy Center), “Big River” (Fords Theater Helen Hayes Award 2006), “Fences” (Riverside), “Angels In America: I&II” (Alley Theater), “BLUE” (Pasadena Playhouse L.A. Michael McElroy is the Founder/Musical Director and Arranger for Broadway Inspirational Voices (BIV) a multi-racial gospel choir comprised of Broadway performers from such shows as “Memphis,” “Book of Mormon,” “Nice Work if You Can Get It,” “Spiderman,” “Lion King,” “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” “Sister Act” and the upcoming “Annie.” Broadway Inspirational has recorded 2 Albums: “Grace” (DMP Records) and “Great Joy!” (Sh-K-Boom Records).

As an arranger, in 2005 Michael was nominated for a Grammy award for his work on Broadway Inspirational Voices holiday CD “Great Joy! A Gospel Christmas.” This past season Michael’s arrangement of “Stand” was featured of the hit TV show “Smash.” The arrangement performed by Broadway Inspirational Voices is also featured of the show’s CD. His arrangements have been performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, Constitution Hall in Washington D.C., The Crystal Cathedral in Anaheim, California, as well as in churches around the country. Vocal and musical arrangements for television include NBC’s “Smash,” theater vocal arrangements and orchestrations include “Soul of Rodgers” (Reprise LA), “Being Alive” (Westport Theater, Philadelphia Theater Company), “Street Corner Symphony” (Brooks Atkinson), “Three Mo’ Tenors” (Little Shubert Theater), Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks 2005 and 2006, Rose Parade 2010-2012, Six Flags Theme parks, Rite Aid, State Farm, Salvation Army and Boy Scouts of American industrials.

Michael is an adjudicator for YoungArts and coach for National High School Musical Theater Awards 2011 and 2012. Michael is Head of Vocal Performance in the New Studio on Broadway in the Department of Drama at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Michael has taught Master Classes in vocal technique and auditioning at Carnegie Mellon, University of Miami and New York University. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon with a B.F.A in Drama.
