Erica Durham Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards Aliquippa, PA

How did you get into theater?

I have been performing since I was a little girl, probably around the age of three. I was singing before I could really talk, usually to Janis Joplin and Mariah Carey. I had problems with my hearing when I was a child, so speaking was a little difficult for me. But after seeing a production of "The Lion King," I said my first actual sentence and have not stopped talking since then. I got my first real start in musicals in my freshman year of high school, in a production of "Jesus Christ Superstar."

Who are some of your role models in entertainment?

Some of my heroes and heroines include Gary Oldman, Alfred Molina, Audra McDonald, Heather Headley, Viola Davis, Sutton Foster, Jessica Chastain, and Meryl Streep. Each one of them is beyond talented and I aspire to become the performers that they are today.
