Episode 2 Journal

What did you think of today's challenge?

Today's challenge should have been easy; however, walking into an unfamiliar kitchen with unfamiliar people is quite difficult. I know that now. The egg challenge, I should have done better, but I couldn't recover after the drama with Autumn.

What did you prepare today?

I initially meant to prepare a soft-boiled egg with cucumber, shallots, capers, and créme fraiche, but since my pot was removed from the heat I had to use a coddled egg yolk instead. It sucked. For the second challenge, mise en place, I prepared mise en place for these two dishes: tartar of tomato cucumber and avocado with Asian herbs, and then a warm fennel and fresh herb salad with orange vinaigrette.

How do you think you did? Is there anything you wish you'd done better?

Obviously I did sh***y. Being the first eliminated was an embarrassment. I would have done much better had I been more focused.

What was the highlight of the day's events?

The highlight of today was the parting gifts: a ceramic knife and an All-Clad sauté pan that basically says "loser" on the bottom.

Are there any lessons you took away from today?

The greatest lesson I learned is don't trust anybody. My insight is that the rest of the contestants don't have my business sense and the judges will be ultimately disappointed with the final decision.

What was the most constructive or interesting piece of feedback you heard from the judges?

There was really no constructive criticism offered except that I am ultimately responsible for my destiny.

How do you think you are doing in relation to your fellow competitors?

No answer.

Who do you think is faring the best and why?

The big surprises of the first challenge were the dishes offered by Katsuji and Sara. For the second challenge I thought Michael and Katie showed the judges what they wanted.

What do you think your fellow competitors think of you?

I think there is some guilt on Autumn's part, and ultimately I think most people hated to see me go.
