Are there any works of art that should always be banned?

Would a work like Vladimir Nabokov's novel Lolita ever be appropriate for the high school classroom? Are there other artworks which should be banned in any context?

Should arts be banned?
Sixer Jones - 06:05pm Jan 20, 2000

If Van Gogh can paint a painting of his ear being bandaged all of you liberals and conservatives appalled by the elephant dung painting, get a life! If you'll hang it in your house no matter how tacky it is It's freakin' ART!

Ban Censorship
azjudyann - 07:44pm Jan 28, 2000

Don't ban anything artistic. If it offends, don't look, read, watch or listen. But how dare you deny me or anyone else the privilege to appreciate it. Whenever anyone cites doing something "for the good of the people," what they're really saying is that they don't want the people to dare to think, because the fear is that the people won't think just like the censors. That is the antithesis of freedom. Some works may be offensive to many, but that doesn't make them ban-worthy. Parents may use the excuse that they want to protect their children. Why not encourage your children to feel safe telling you what they really think about an artistic piece, and open lines of informed dialog with them? (Key word: "informed.") What a concept!
