Patrick Cardine, Architectural Blacksmith
Italian-American blacksmith Patrick Cardine from Bealeton, Virginia, specializes in designing and crafting hand-forged architectural ironwork. His intricate creations include decorative hand railings for Washington National Cathedral and large-scale architectural pieces, such as gates, grilles, and railings, for numerous clients in New York, Washington, D.C., and other cities along the East Coast. Patrick’s technical virtuosity and deep understanding of his tools and raw materials come from years of hands-on practice and experience. “Sparks are flying in my head and at the anvil,” he says. “I get as excited over figuring out how to do a complicated process as I do over the design.”
“There’s nothing as magical and intoxicating as forging hot metal.”
