Tips from Miller Gaffney, Part 2
Here's 4 more tips from Miller Gaffney on how to find and buy antiques.
1. Look high and low in vendors’ booths, especially in their trailers and trucks. Sometimes the best items are hidden on top of armoires or left on the truck for later.
2. Every object tells a story, but some have more to say than others, and the challenge is to pick these out. Find the great pieces that have an aura about them.
3. Antique collecting is all about hunting — the tracking down of that rare and elusive object. When it comes to the antiques trail, knowledge is power.
4. Concerning condition —get past the current condition and look beyond and don’t judge a book by its cover. It can change from trash to treasure. But make sure that the condition or restoration costs are beneficial to the overall value to the piece. Ask yourself if it has iconic period style or superb detail —look for the diamonds in the rough.
