A Very Vintage Halloween
With Halloween just around the corner and many of us looking for inspiration to make it our best one yet, we have assembled a few suggestions for a very Market Warriors-inspired Halloween (complete with costume ideas, treats and decorations).
What to wear:
If you are throwing a party, give your
guests plastic and paper vintage or vintage-inspired masks
. Your friends are sure to feel as fabulous and
chic as Audrey Hepburn looked in her five-and-dime store cat mask in Breakfast
at Tiffany’s.
Consignment and thrift shops are a go-to for inexpensive, one-of-a-kind costumes from vintage suiting and hats to statement dresses from glamorous eras gone by.
Accessorize with colorful costume jewelry, like the display of black and orange Bakelite and celluloid pieces pictured here (complete with black cat motif).
Décor ideas:
Display a DIY pennant made of vintage Halloween greetings and ephemera. The colorful vintage postcards and antique alphabet letters are great for spelling out spooky messages.
Another inexpensive flea market find, a collection of old mason and canning jars , are the perfect vessels for holding orange and black flickering candles or electric flameless candles.
Your party playlist wouldn't be complete without a few scary songs. Extra points to the party planner that who plays theirs from vinyl records.
What to eat and giveaway:
Use vintage Halloween chocolate molds and cookie cutters to make batches of pumpkin and bat-shaped goodies. The homemade treats can be displayed on tiers of glass cake plates.
Vintage-inspired Halloween treat bags will encourage your guests to take some of the sweets home with them. You can find original paper treat bags still in their original packaging online or use a vintage-inspired stamp on new, brown craft paper bags.
