Viewing Strategies The film is 112 minutes, and can be divided into four segments that are identical, except for the last, to the sections in which Cather divided the novel. These segments are: Segment One From the start of the film to Thea and Dr. Archie's train ride to Chicago, the first time Thea leaves Moonstone. (38 minutes) Segment Two Beginning with the first scene in Chicago, and continuing through Thea's visit back home the following summer. (27 minutes) Segment Three Beginning as Thea comes back to Chicago looking for the Harsanyis, and continuing through Fred's invitation to Thea to accompany him to his Arizona ranch. (20 minutes) Segment Four From the scenes at the canyons in Arizona through the end of the film.
