Description
George Smiley rallies to the aid of his former intelligence colleague, Ailsa Brimley to investigate a mysterious letter from Stella Rode, a junior master's wife at Carne School, intimating that her husband intended to kill her 'in th elong nights'. Smiley telephones a housemaster at Carne, Terence Fielding, and discovers that Stella Rode had met a bloody end the previous evening. Smiley begins to scratch at the surface of the closed tight society that is Carne and things are clearly not quite as they seem.
