Description
This film tells the story of the start of Sir Francis Drake's historical circumnavigation of the world in the sixteenth century, and the growing alienation between himself and his life-long friend Thomas Doughty, which ended in an improvised court-martial in South America and the beheading of Doughty. Of the five ships that set sail from Plymouth, only the Golden Hinde under Drake went on through the Magellan Straits, up the coast to South America to a six week sojourn at what is now San Francisco and to complete the circumnavigation of the world in the autumn of 1580.
