Description
Orphaned at twenty, Flora Poste possesses every grace save the art of earning her own living. Intent both on setting straight other people's lives and collecting material for a future novel, Flora surveys a field of unknown relatives for a suitable environment in which to settle herself and her small income. She writes to each relative asking for a place to live. Sifting through replies, Flora is fascinated by a cryptic note from the Starkadder clan at Cold Comfort Farm; she decides to leave immediately for Cold Comfort and, upon arriving, is greeted by a strange and disheveled group.
