While studying at the Julliard School in New York City, Illinois native Elizabeth McGovern was offered a part in her first film, Robert Redford's Ordinary People. The following year she earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in Ragtime. She went on to star with Robert De Niro in the 1984 cult gangster movie Once Upon A Time In America and later opposite Mickey Rourke in Johnny Handsome.
Of Season 2's script and events, McGovern says, "I love the fact that Julian has written the contrast between the very real, very gritty war with soldiers dying and suffering, and this petty domestic war at home. That is the way life is. We all create our own mini wars."
A singer-songwriter and member of the band Sadie and the Hotheads, she lives in London with her husband director/producer Simon Curtis and their two children.
