Sarah O'Brien, the scheming, often nasty lady's maid to Lady Grantham, does not suffer fools. Nor does she waste an opportunity to act on any information she can exploit to further herself, the house, or those who have her loyalty, such as her mistress, Cora, and former footman, Thomas. While she and Thomas continue their below-the-stairs alliance, forged against Bates and William in season 1, the war has changed them both. O'Brien doesn't necessarily cease her malicious meddling, but she does demonstrate moments of compassion, in spite of herself.
