 The Forsyte Saga, Series II TV PG Airing Sundays February 8 through 22, 2004 on PBS (Check local listings; dates and times may vary) "Ravishing television..." -- Daily Mail A new generation of Forsytes unwittingly repeats the errors of its elders in The Forsyte Saga, Series II, based on To Let, John Galsworthy's climactic volume in The Forsyte Saga trilogy. Set in the 1920s, two decades after the first series ends, the plot follows the courtship of two teenage Forsyte cousins: Fleur and Jon. Mere infants at the close of last season, they are now eighteen and deeply in love. But little do they suspect their parents hide a dark secret that will turn their nuptial dreams into a Romeo and Juliet ordeal. Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers) returns as Soames, Fleur's indulgent father. He is a troubled soul desperately searching for love as the once-secure world of Forsyte values crumbles around him. Also back is Gina McKee (Notting Hill) as Soames's ex-wife, Irene, who happens to be Jon's mother. As fate would have it, her son has fallen in love with the daughter of the man she despises above all others. Fleur (Emma Griffiths Malin, The Cazalets) and Jon (Lee Williams, Billy Elliot) haven't a clue that Soames and Irene were once married, much less that something shocking happened between them. ("Some murder, I suppose," muses Fleur.) All the young lovers know is that the family won't talk. All in all, the cast is "the cream of British acting," promises executive producer Sita Williams, who describes the story of the Forsytes as "absolutely tremendous and very relevant to today. Apart from dealing with family, love, and betrayal, it also addresses obsession, power, money, and possession."
