The Ponder Heart
updated 1.31.2002

Dear Masterpiece Theatre,
I was amazed to see that a majority of The Ponder Heart stars all were born in Texas. Is this a coincidence, or is Texas just a big state?

Check out our online interview with Ponder Heart director Martha Coolidge at The Ponder Heart site. Coolidge notes that one of the show's realistic details included the authentic southern accents attributable to the fact that the majority of the cast were either local (Mississippi) actors or from Texas.

Dear Masterpiece Theatre,
Thank you so much for creating The Ponder Heart. It was faithful to Eudora Welty and to what she teaches and reveals about life. It was funny, it was poignant, it was touching.

Applause for every actor -- they all seemed to understand the meaning of the story and to communicate each role with humanity and grace. Applause for the screenwriter and for the director and the person who did the sets and chose the locales.

Thanks to Masterpiece Theatre for running such a story in these difficult times. It made me and my husband feel better than we have since the murderous attacks of September 11. A wonderful experience that we hope to enjoy again.

Dear Masterpiece Theatre,
I loved The Ponder Heart. It was the most refreshing and original show I've seen on TV in a very long time. It's a show I could watch over and over. Thanks for presenting it.

Dear Masterpiece Theatre,
After viewing the Masterpiece presentation of The Ponder Heart, it appears that it has carbon-copied much of my family's life in the South. It was thoroughly enjoyable, and very well presented for that time period. My hat goes off to the actors, director, and all, for many scenes which reminded me of personal past experiences and family ways. Thanks.
