Marianne Jean-Baptiste showed an aptitude for music as a child and later became interested in acting. She lives in South London with her husband Evan, a former dancer, and their two children. Her acting credits include the films Secrets & Lies (1996) with Brenda Blethyn, for which she received an Oscar nomination, and The Cell (2000). She has also appeared on stage in It's a Great Big Shame (1993) and Measure for Measure (1994) and on television in The Wedding (1998), an adaptation of the novel by Dorothy West.
