A deeply personal connection to My Boy Jack
My Boy Jack is, I think for a lot of us in the film, is not just a professional journey, it is also a personal journey. My nephew is 18, as Jack becomes in our story, Jack Kipling. And my young nephew, like Jack, is very much filled with dreams of glory and patriotism, to protect and honor and obey the boundaries of war and politics, and I see very much a trend in the younger generation to really have a very naive view of what war is. So I wanted so much to be part of this, to show to my dear nephew that, you know, there is a cautionary side to war.
