The Rise of the Killer Serial
The Publishing History of Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist, with illustrations by George Cruikshank, was serialized in 24 installments in Bentley's Miscellany, a monthly magazine which began publication in January of 1837. Dickens was its first editor, a position he held until February of 1839. The serialization of both The Pickwick Papers and Nicholas Nickleby overlapped at times with Twist.
