Doctor Clarkson
Post-war, Richard Clarkson has returned to his standard practice as country doctor, with its natural rhythms of life and death. But his (happy) misdiagnosis of Matthew's spinal cord injury and the tragic loss of Lavinia during the Spanish flu have marred his record for Robert. What's more, his social position, awkwardly wedged between the village and the family, does nothing to raise his standing -- a potential problem where issues of class can cloud treatment.
