Harry Gordon Selfridge
Founder, Selfridges Department Store
Five years after his arrival in London, Chicago native and self-made retail entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge has successfully established his ambitious department store, Selfridges, in the London landscape. But his wife, Rose, has passed those years largely in America, fed up with Harry's womanizing. Chastened and humbled, Harry is desperate to win his estranged wife back, and with his personal demons defeated and his prodigious appetite in check, he may yet have a fighting chance. But obstacles, from Rose's new best friend Delphine to the onset of war, could prove insurmountable. With the country on the brink of war, in the midst of people whose motives aren't entirely pure, he must demonstrate his worth as an American as well as a husband.
